Constipation can be very painful and difficult to deal with if you don’t know what to do. Getting really constipated can also lead to painful an itchy hemorrhoids or worse yet a fissure which can be really hard to heal without taking great measures to stop constipation for a very long time depending on the severity of the fissure. Please see your physician to make sure it is not something serious or if you are unable to get constipation relief within a few days. Also, if you have certain dietary restrictions, you may not be able to consume certain foods. Children and infants need to see a doctor sooner.

I would suggest starting by increasing your fiber intake. The American diet these days consist of so many carbohydrates and fats that fill us up that we tend not to take the time to eat the healthy fruits and vegetables that mom told us to eat. One of the many causes of constipation can be related to the high amounts of potatoes, breads, meats and bad fats. Recommended by many health experts are Nine to Ten Fruits and Vegetables per day. If you shoot for this and eat only half that amount, it will probably be better than what you are doing now. Work your way up to this optimal amount. 3 Minute Yogurt Fruit Smoothie (To make it Easier – Have all ingredients together in Refrigerator and Freezer in a Narrow Box)

Fill Magic Bullet 2 inches from the Top with Frozen Strawberries and Blueberries Magic Bullet MBR-1701 17-Piece Express Mixing SetBlenders)

Add:

2 TBS Flaxseed Spectrum Naturals – Essential Flaxseed Ground Organic, 14 oz granulesFlaxseed Herbal Supplements)

½ to 2 tsp Metamucil-BeneFiber I like Metamucil Psyllium Fiber, Original Texture, Unflavored 29 oz (822 g)Psyllium Supplements)
Start slowly and gradually increase the fiber and flaxseed to what you are comfortable with, you should not have diarrhea, reduce fiber if you do.

¼ Cup Fat Free Plain Yogurt

You can also go vegan for a few days or a week to see how your body handles it.  This is a great natural colon cleanser too. Because protein and carbs can be one of the many causes of constipation, it may be a good idea to try this. Just simply eat Raw or lightly cooked fruits and veggies without any additives. If you must add carbohydrates during this time, make sure it is high in fiber (approximately 10 grams of fiber is really good per serving). Cabbage is a really great home remedies for constipation. As I keep recommending, drink a minimum of 64 ounces per day or better yet, half your body weight in ounces plus 10 ounces if you are experiencing acute or chronic constipation. Example: If you weigh 150 pounds that would be 75 ounces plus 10 ounces equals 85 ounces per day when you are packing in the bulky fibers especially. At least start drinking more and more and work your way up to at least ½ gallon per day. Believe me, it does get easier and you won’t believe how much better your constipation will get with just these 2 measures – Fiber and Water. Remember to drink water all day long and not too late at night or you won’t sleep well if you are up and down all night going to the bathroom. I try to get a quart in by noon and sip all afternoon if I am able.

Exercise is another one of the great home remedies for constipation. Don’t fall into the “I don’t feel like it because I am constipated”. My deep fissure made me have to stop exercising making it even more difficult to deal with the extreme constipation I was dealing with. It put so much pressure on the fissure. Now, I will admit that I am having a hard time starting up again but I at least love walking, which helps a lot.

Be very cautious about taking too many laxatives. The very few times I do I really like the gentle natural laxative here Senokot, 50-count BoxLaxatives)
. It works gently overnight for those times I don’t follow my own advice. I especially have a difficult time eating right when we have company. They want to eat out more and eat differently than we do and I will sometimes fall back into these constipation causing foods. If you take laxatives too often, you may train your digestive system to depend on them and therefore will stop working normally itself. I read that it can take a year to undo this damage and this could become causes of constipation in your future. Please watch to be sure your teenage daughters aren’t using these to loose weight. Bad, bad news.

and it really helped until I was able to get constipation relief completely on my own. What a happy time that was for me to not have to use anything but a good healthy diet which, by the way, I lost 20 pounds in the mean time without even trying to loose weight, just deal with the chronic constipation and deep fissure. This really altered my life and I want to help you avoid getting constipated or help you if you have chronic constipation. Please don’t wait until something worse happens to you. Teach your family good eating habits now and the importance to not only stop constipation but also live a healthier life.

I read somewhere that eating bananas can be another one of the home remedies for constipation. They say you need to chew thoroughly the banana and drink a warm glass of mild at the same time. Please do not substitute bananas for other fruits though. You also NEED more fibrous fruits such as Pineapple, Papaya, Apples, Berries, etc…. Veggies like the cruciferous versions, Cabbage, Cauliflower, and Broccoli. For protein, try Beans and Legumes for a while. I could not handle meat yet I could digest Beans during the worst constipation period. It is filled with fiber and protein so it is a great substitute because you still need protein.

My doctor also told me that Painkillers such as Vicodin, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone etc… can cause chronic constipation. Please discuss any issues with your doctor regarding pain medication and getting constipation relief. Some anti-depressants as well can be causes of constipation.

To Sum it up:
Eat a High Fiber Diet Daily
Strive to have at least 1 bowel movement per day.
Drink lots of water every day
Exercise regularly
Realize that pain medication or anti-depressants could be causes of constipation.
