Everyone is saying fiber fiber fiber, what is fiber and what foods contain it that will HELP ME LOSE WEIGHT
Why Eat Fiber?
To Stop Constipation for your General Health. Fiber helps keep your digestive system moving along. Fiber will help to fill you up because it take longer for your body to digest.
Many foods that are commonly ate have good sources of FIBER.
Fruits and Vegetables
Some of Little Linda Pinda’s Favorite high Fiber Foods would be Fruits and Vegetables. I used to have a juicer and decided to sell it because I could see all the Awesome fiber that was being removed. Instinctively this just felt wrong to me. I do however understand the point of Juicing but I decided to Eat the WHOLE Fruits and Vegetables.
That is one reason I like the Vitamix. It will pulverize your fruits and vegetables but keep the valuable Fiber at the same time. You can make healthy soups, chop vegetables, make homemade Ice Cream, yum and of course make my Special Smoothies. Look for recipes on this site. This is the BEST Small Appliance I ever owned. I just talked to someone else the other day who saw it demonstrated at a home show and ENTHUSIASTICALLY agreed. Powerful and Long Lasting too. Look at what the professionals are using.
The other Fiber that is Easy to Eat is High Fiber Cereal. Fiber One makes really great tasting High Fiber Cereals that will get you Half your daily serving in Fiber Daily. I try to make it a rule of thumb to purchase at least 9 Grams and up fiber cereals. Gluten Free Cereals are more difficult to get high fiber.
Whole Wheat and Whole Grain Breads</strong
I grew up eating whole wheat bread from Brownberry. My Gramma just gave it to me and it became a regular part of my life even though my mom bought us plain white bread, I always preferred to Whole Wheat. You can usually get about 3 grams of fiber but I look for higher fiber when I buy it for my husband. I don’t eat too much Gluten anymore because Gluten seems to cause constipation for me.
Brown and Wild Rice
I have fallen in love with Brown and Wild Rice. It takes forty five to fifty minutes to make but it is well worth the wait. It is not super high fiber but it doesn’t break down into the sugars so easily like the white rice does. I even make an Awesome Coconut Rice Pudding with short Grain Brown Rice. Really yummy and Coconut Milk is really good for constipation as well.
Psyllium Fiber and Inulin Fiber
In my view one of the easiest ways to get a lot of Fiber into your diet. You can see that my Fruit Smoothie Recipes often add Fiber. I typically use the Psyllium Fiber in my Smoothies, Baked Goods and more solid type food and the Inulin in my Water, Juices, Hot Chocolate and throw some into my husbands coffee too. Super simple. Excellent source of Fiber.
What is GREAT about my Fruit Smoothies is you don’t have to wait for Fruits to be in season. I purchase a Large Frozen Bag of Mixed Tropical Fruit, Strawberries and Blueberries at Costco or Sams Club. You can also buy frozen fruit at a regular grocery store. I keep my ingredients handy so I can make the Smoothie quickly and drink it while working on the computer or relaxing. Here are some links for recipes for you to try.
Fruit Smoothie recipes: Add Fiber to ANY Smoothie. If you want a lighter Fiber that totally dissolves, then use the Inulin Fiber. I like the Psyllium Fiber in my smoothies.

Here is another option for a Blender. I did not try this one. I use the Vitamix and the Magic bullet. I LOVE my Vitamix blender and use the NutriBullet Blender often, for one big serving or 2 small servings.
